Electro-Optic Modulators
Electro-optic modulators (EOMs) are efficient and easy to use tools to modify the phase, frequency, polarization or amplitude of a free-space laser. In contrast to acousto-optic modulators the spatial mode of the laser beam remains unaltered. Therefore, EOMs are the ideal choice when several frequency components are required in a laser spectrum. For instance, in laser cooling repumper frequency generation, ion trapping and quantum optics, for spectral broadening to suppress stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in high power fibers, and for heterodyne techniques, like FM Spectroscopy, Modulation Transfer Spectroscopy or Pound-Drever Hall (PDH) Laser Frequency Stabilization. The modulation spectrum of our electro-optic modulators ranges from DC-coupled phase shifters to high-Q, resonant EOMs in the kHz, MHz and GHz range. Large apertures and a range of selected crystals materials (AR-coated or Brewster-cut) permit the use of high power lasers at UV to IR wavelengths.

Advanced Driver Unit - ADU
The Advanced Driver Unit (ADU) is a user-friendly RF driver specifically designed for resonant EOMs. It combines a precision radio-frequency source (DDS) with optional power amplifier and several useful features needed for laser spectroscopy and frequency stabilization (PDH). It’s simple, push-button operation and automatic lock & track function, make it an ideal solution for users requiring a stand-alone, trouble-free EOM driver always operating on the EOMs optimal working point. Besides ensuring stable operation (amplitude & phase of the optical modulation) this potentially saves expensive analytical equipment, like an optical spectrum analyzer (e.g. scanning Fabry-Perot cavity). For more complex applications the ADU offers several input and output ports as well as PC control software (free) which can be embedded in experiment control sequences.

Modulator Bias Controllers
Modulator Bias Controllers (MBC) are required to stabilize the operating point of Mach-Zehnder Modulators (Intensity-Modulators). For critical applications and to achieve high extinction ratios (ER) the use of an external tap-coupler (e.g. OP-PD/TAP-800, -1000, 1550) and the MBC’s internal photodiode is recommended.
