Wavelength Meter

Enter a New World of Accuracy!

HighFinesse/Ångstrom offers sensitive and compact wavelength meters with a large spectral range for high speed measurement of lasers. The optical unit consists of temperature-controlled Fizeau-based interferometers that are read out by photodiode arrays. The high absolute accuracy is achieved by use of solid state, non-moving optics.

The optical unit and associated electronics are housed in a compact, thermal casing. The connection to a computer or notebook is realized via a highspeed USB 2.0 port, which allows a high data read-out rate. The analyzing software displays all the interferometer information and is compatible with Microsoft Windows.

wavelengthmeter

Main Benefits and Properties:

  • Pulsed and cw lasers can be measured

  • Most accurate instruments available:
± 2 MHz with measurement resolution of 500 kHz

  • High speed measurements up to 600 Hz

  • Extremely wide range: 192 nm - 11 µm

  • Data control through easy access API
    (LabView, C++, MatLab, ...)

Advantages of Solid-State, Non-Moving Optics

The significant advantage of our Fizeau-based wavelength meters, compared with other available instruments, is the absence of mechanical moving parts. This ensures the high reliability of accuracies up to 2 MHz (absolute) and the outstanding robustness HighFinesse wavelength meters are noted for. The sturdiness of this design has been proven even under extreme conditions such as freefall dropping experiments or in air-borne applications (LIDAR).

Temperature and Pressure Enhanced Stability

Measurements are temperature and pressure compensated using ultra sensitive temperature and pressure sensors. That way it is possible to use the devices in aviatic measurement environments, high altitudes, LIDAR, ... Please click here to see a temperature and pressure stability graph

Long-term Measurement Recordings

This application acquires the measured wavelength and other values (temperature, analog output, etc.), displaying mean, max. and min. wavelengths as well as standard deviations. The software also allows the user to display the idler frequency, by measuring the pump and signal laser, or by showing the frequency distance between two lasers (THz generation). Any number of long-term windows may be opened simultaneously to monitor up to 8 laser sources (multi-channel option) per wavelength meter. No other product offers this flexibility.

Internal Calibration

LSA, WS5, WS6, WS6-200 and WS7 have as a standard feature automatic internal calibration. The lifetime of this maintenance-free calibration source is more than 10 years!

Built-in Pulse Detection

An integrated mechanism detects the optical peaks from a pulsed laser and starts synchronization with the measurement process.

Highest Sensitivity

Most sensitive available detectors and special optical coatings allow highest power sensitivities down to pJ-range for small (IS-Series) and medium (LSA) spectral ranges and very good sensitivity for all ranges.

Calibration Sources

External & Internal Calibration Sources

Integrated Calibration Sources

Up to an absolute accuracy of 60 MHz standard HighFinesse Wavelength Meters feature auto-calibration by integrated calibration sources. This way highest accuracy and stability of measurements with our wavemeters is guaranteed.

External Calibration Sources

HighFinesse offers a variety of frequency stabilized, narrow linewidth laser sources for different applications down to ± 2 MHz absolute accuracy. They are ideally for quick and accurate calibration of the Ultimate-series of our HighFinesse Wavelength Meters.

  • SLR-series: stabilized on atomic transitions, narrow linewidth, optimally used for WS-Ultimate. Available in different wavelengths, such as: 780, 850, 895, 1532, and 1555 nm

  • SL-series: Helium-Neon Lasers at 633nm

  • Infrared Helium-Neon Laser: best for our Laser Spectrum Analyzer, LSA IR-III

Automatic Calibration

It is possible to perform automatic re-calibration of the wavelength meter at user defined intervals, from weeks to between every measurements. This automatic procedure takes less than one second before automatically returning to your laser. No user intervention is required. When used in conjunction with the PID option, no loss of control of the laser is experienced.

Spectrometer - OSA

High Resolution Spectrum Analysis

HighFinesse optical spectrometers LSA and HDSA are designed to analyse the multi-line or broadband spectrum of (un-)known light sources like cw and pulsed lasers, gas discharge lamps, super luminescence diodes, semiconductor laser diodes and LEDs. They are suitable to analyze the spectrum of telecom signals, resolve Fabry-Perot modes of a gain chip, and produce a spectral measurement of gas absorption.

Main Benefits and Features

  • Pulsed and cw lasers

  • Extremely wide range: 192 nm - 11 µm

  • High-speed Measurements

  • Data control through easy access API

  • (LabView, C++, MatLab, ...)

  • External Trigger (TTL), optional

  • Laser Control (PID), optional

Plug & Play

The robust and compact devices feature a FC/PC fiber input and are built with no moving optical parts (solid-state technology) and can measure pulsed and continous light sources. All devices are automatically calibrated by a maintenance-free internal calibration source, that has a lifetime of more than 10 years. Internal temperature and pressure sensors are built in as standard quality measure for reliable results over time and changing ambient lab conditions.

Built-in Pulse Detection

An integrated mechanism detects the optical peaks from a pulsed laser and starts synchronization with the measurement process.

Customization

Customized solutions are made for any range between 192 and 11000nm, any spectral broadening, and the highest maximal possible resolution.

Precision Current Sources

From Microamps to Hundreds of Amps

HighFinesse Precision Current Sources have been developed for experiments and quantum technologies in the areas of cold-atom and solid state physics. The linearly regulated BCS (Bipolar Current Source) and UCS (Unipolar Current Source) series deliver highly stable, low noise source currents for high precision magnetic field control. The current output is floating or is on a used defined potential. Ultrafast response to control signals and trigger functions, clear grounding, connection and signal isolation schemes make the integration of the current sources into complex experimental systems easy.

precisioncurrentsources

According to power ratings the current sources are built as air cooled or water cooled units. The current sources are supplied form the mains (single or three phase mains connection) or optionally from batteries. Besides the standard BCS- and UCS-Series, HighFinesse offers the very compact and modular SMD-BCS series, based on SMD electronics. SMD based micro- and milliampere sorces are available with integrated batteries and recharger unit.

With our current sources we are always open for customers requirements, so please don‘t hesitate to contact us for user defined functions or OEM applications.

The main benefits and properties of our current sources are

  • Current output: floating or on user defined potential

  • Analog / digital / manual current control

  • Trigger functions

  • Response time: adjustable between 50 μs and 100 ms

  • Current stability and reproducibility on the ppm level

  • Mains suppression: below 10-5 x Imax

  • Galvanic / quasi-galvanic isolation of control signals
